The National Science Centre of Poland (NCN) has awarded Dr. Mateusz Hohol a research grant of PLN 1.7 million (around EUR 400,000) for the implementation of the project titled The Gist of Math: Applying Fuzzy-Trace Theory as an Integrative Framework to Investigate Different Dimensions of Numerical Memory and Their Associations with Mathematical Skills in the General Population and Among Individuals with Dyscalculia.
Over the course of four years, Hohol’s team will experimentally investigate how different dimensions of verbatim memory (precise numerical representations) and gist memory (intuitive numerical representations) relate to mathematical competence. The research will focus on both long-term and working memory, and will encompass difficulties in number memory experienced by individuals with developmental dyscalculia, as well as strategies that help them overcome these challenges.
The project will be kicked off in September 2025. To learn more about the project, check out the website.
